Eulogy to Eric
by Janet F. delos Reyes (c) 2008 -03
To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance ...
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Delivered at funeral service on March 3,2008.
We are here today to mourn, and to remember a
great person, ERIC MOSS.
We will always remember ERIC for his wit, humor and
his good spirits. He was one person we could talk
to about any topic under the sun. Our conversations
ranged from the profound to the mundane.. from Mozart,
Aristotle, Galileo, Queen Elizabeth, George Bush, Bradd
Pitt, Angelina Jolie, El Niņo and so forth and so on.
ERIC was a well-traveled man. He had a good understanding
of other cultures, which allowed him to relate to people
from all walks of life. Now that I think about it though,
he did not even have to travel to be exposed to different
kinds of people.
Our family only had to go to their cottage called:
NEVER INN" for our annual summer outing and voila, he
had a melting pot right in his home. We have a Japanese,
a Spaniard, an East Indian,Irish, an Englishman, a German
and of course the Filipinos all under one roof.
ERIC liked to be around people but he preferred to be
surrounded by family. This is one of the reasons why we
always looked forward t visiting "NEVER INN". He made
sure everybody had a good time.
He was an inspiration to most of us because he was
determined to stay strong and alert despite his
medical condition. Even when he was not feeling well,
he did not show it. He did not let it get in the
way of having a good time. He made sure very summer
with them was well spent.
And surely they were. When it was time to leave ERIC
would always say,"I wish you could stay longer." And
now, we just want to say the same thing to him "ERIC,
we wish you could have stayed longer."
Sure we are all sad. But we take comfort in the fact
that ERIC lived his life to the fullest and that he
is now at peace with our Creator.
ERIC had been very supportive to our dear sister Bonnie.
They had such a strong bond that allowed them to draw
strength from each other. BONNIE, if ERIC could speak
right now, these are the words we imagine he would
want you to live by:
"Hold on to what is good, even if it's only a
handful of earth"
"Hold on to what you believe, even it's a tree
that stands by itself"
"Hold on to what you must do, even it it's a
long way from here"
"Hold on to you life, even if it is easier to let go"
"Hold on to my hand, even if I've gone away"
A Final Goodbye
